DESCRIPTION:The last River Talk of the 2022-2023 season is all about birds and will include some outdoor bird observing. It will be held in-person at the Lake Superior Estuarium (3 Marina Dr.\, Superior\, Wisconsin) and portions also available by Zoom. SUMMARY:Everyone Can Bird: Spring Arrivals at Boy Scout Landing
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lake Superior Reserve\, Hawk Ridge and the Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve for a free\, bird-focused morning as part of an accessible birding series. \nWe welcome people of all ages and ability levels to attend this accessible birding event at Boy Scout Landing in Duluth. Observe waterfowl from the comfort of the landing with fellow bird enthusiasts and beginners alike. Light refreshments will be provided. Come and stay for the whole time\, or meet up with or leave the group when you need. \nWe have 15 pairs of binoculars for people to use\, a spotting scope\, a wheelchair mount for the scope\, and portable seating. ASL interpretation will be provided. \nTo register visit the event page here. Registration is encouraged but not required. \nThis event is part of a series. Further events are scheduled for August 2 at Barker’s Island in Superior\, and October 14 at Hawk Ridge in Duluth. \nThese activities are designed with access in mind\, but if you would like to request additional accommodations\, please email Luciana.Ranelli@Wisc.Edu or call Luciana at 715-399-4085 at least 10 days before the event. \nBoy Scout Landing has a paved landing\, where we will be spending the morning. Optional other locations for bird viewing are a wooden dock without railings and a small beach accessible by a short path made of compacted soil with a brief but significant slope. SUMMARY:History of the Upper Estuary and Fond du Lac Neighborhood: River history and winter stories
DESCRIPTION:The March 8th River Talk features Christine Carlson\, historian\, and Mark McConnell\, Elder\, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. It will be in person only—indoors at the Lake Superior Estuarium and outdoors on the nearby snow or frozen estuary if conditions allow. This talk is in conjunction with the St. Louis River Summit and has slightly different timing\, going from 6:30-8:00pm. \nLight refreshments will be provided. The Lake Superior Estuarium is an indoor\, accessible venue with two single-user accessible restrooms. The Reserve will provide seating outdoors for the outdoors portion. DESCRIPTION:We’re looking forward to the 13th year of the St. Louis River Summit\, and a return to hosting most of this event at the Yellowjacket Union on the campus of UW-Superior. In 2023\, the Summit program will begin with a half day virtual program on March 8 and will move into two full days of in-person sessions on March 9 and 10 at the Yellowjacket Union.\n\nRead more about the summit\n2023 Summit Cost & Registration\nJoin us in celebrating the St. Louis River Estuary.\n\nGeneral Admission $60. Attend all three days of the Summit (virtual and in-person).\nVirtual Session Admission $25. Attend the virtual half-day program on March 8th.
