SUMMARY:River Walks: Pickle Paddle
DESCRIPTION:The first River Walk of the year is actually a paddle! Enjoy a nice evening on the water\, paddle craft and light snacks provided. We’ll paddle rain or shine. We will post a notification day-of for a severe weather cancellation. \n\n\n\nAs a large habitat improvement project wraps up at the Pickle Pond site\, we’re providing a chance for the community to explore Pickle Pond from the water and enjoy this newly-restored area. Launching from the public dock on the northwest end of Barkers Island on stand-up paddleboards provided by North Shore SUP\, we’ll paddle across and enter Pickle Pond through one of the new openings made during the restoration work last summer. This program will offer a short formal presentation and a lot of open exploration time for you to poke around at your own pace and explore this now-improved community water access site!

SUMMARY:River Walks: Practicing mindfulness in the outdoors
DESCRIPTION:Being outdoors can help us slow our minds and bring our attention to what is happening in the present moment. Take a moment to slow down and experience guided mindfulness practice in an outdoor setting with staff from UW-Superior’s Pruitt Center\, and learn some ways to think about incorporating mindfulness in natural spaces into your life. Whether you are experienced or new to mindfulness practice\, you are welcome and encouraged to attend this session! \n\n\n\nPlease park and meet at the Lake Superior Reserve Estuarium (3 Marina Drive) at 3:00pm. This event will take place outdoors; we will walk short distances to different locations on the northwest end of Barkers Island. Please come prepared with comfortable clothing and footwear. You may wish to bring a blanket or soft pad for comfort while seated.
