About Cecile

Cecile Renfro has joined the Lake Superior NERR as our new Coastal Wetlands Research Intern (a 2-year fellowship position). Cecile completed her Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduation, she gained experience in both basic and applied ecology through roles that included vegetation inventory and monitoring surveys on the Thunder Basin National Grassland, implementing conservation management plans in Nebraska’s Rainwater Basin, and conducting eco-evolutionary research at Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, she received her master’s degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology. Her thesis integrated over 200 million vascular plant specimens from around the world to compare the structure and drivers of plant diversity within and across biomes. In her new position, Cecile is excited to integrate her passion for conservation and ecology to develop a monitoring plan for wetland restorations in the St. Louis River Estuary. Cecile is new to the Lake Superior area and enjoys hiking, cooking, and beading in her free time.
