The River Talk series wraps up for the season at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at the Lake Superior Estuarium.

Lorena Rios Mendoza with University of Wisconsin-Superior will present, “Newton Creek: Is there contamination after an explosion?” Mendoza has been monitoring water quality in Newton Creek in Superior, Wisconsin, for the past year. She will discuss her findings concerning polyaromatic compounds, which are chemicals released from the burning of coal, oil, gasoline and wood.

The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Minnesota and Wisconsin Sea Grant programs offer this series of informal evening talks about the St. Louis River Estuary. Everyone is invited and refreshments will be available.
